Policing has never been very popular with those policed.  Police work is undeniably adversarial and confrontational by its very nature.  Yet as a society, we realize that the rule of law and those tasked with enforcing the rule of law, are both necessary to maintain a free, yet orderly existence.   This is the reason why those of us living in the United States of America consider this the greatest nation on planet earth.  A bit of a paradox, really, is freedom by rule of law and process, but our nation’s founding fathers understood this to be true.

I believe police organizations should always strive to provide consistently professional police services.  When I am asked why police officers are not “nice”, I tell people, I do not expect police officers to be nice.  After I get the perplexed look that I often get, I go on to explain that “nice” is a subjective term.  Rather, I expect police officers to be professional, because police officers cannot always be nice in terms of the commonly accepted definition of nice.  Professional, as I mean it is that officers are courteous, polite, compassionate, understanding and helpful when it is appropriate and firm, forceful, direct and assertive when appropriate.  Those officers that have found the niche that is the ability to do their jobs professionally without generating excessive complaints from the public are truly professional police officers.  That niche is not easy to find and therefore we must constantly strive to find it.

The members of the Dacono Police Department will strive to provide professional police services to members of the community and the general public. It is incumbent upon us to do so as public employees.  The Dacono Police Department is committed to high standards of integrity and professionalism. We need your support and your confidence if we are to maintain safety in our community.  We will work toward making a positive difference in the community but we simply cannot be successful without you.  This is a partnership, one in which everyone in the community has an interest and must be involved.

Please take a moment to look over the contents of the website.  The website is one critical element in maintaining communication with all members of the Dacono community.  It is an important tool in building a partnership of trust and understanding with the community. As such, we encourage members of the community to submit suggestions for information to be included in the website.  We want the website to reflect the concerns and issues most important to the community.
